The Science of Losing Weight...Kinda

11:00 AM

I've been writing kind of like mini diaries for one of the biggest trips I will be going on this year. I'm going to Cancun with my girlfriends this summer! The prep for Cancun is quite a journey. I wanted to share this with you guys just in case you may want to go to Cancun or go on vacation with your girlfriends as well.

Did you miss the first installment of this mini series? Check it out here. I also wrote about the art of losing weight and why you may be doing it all wrong. You should check that out  I think you should check this post out before moving on and reading this one. I promise it will be worth the read.

After reading that blog and you still want to know the secret to losing weight, you're ready for the next step which is actually losing weight. Nowadays, we are bombarded with the latest in the diet world or the best equipment to lose weight. People have a lot to say when it comes to losing weight. There's the low carb diet, the cleanses that won't let you eat for 10 days or the blood type diet, the cabbage soup diet and the list goes on. One or the other always has it's bad effect, so how can you find a diet that suits your lifestyle?

1. Change your mindset.
You may have heard of this one before, but it's true. The word diet has it's bad connotations. Thinking of this new routine as diet will just make you feel anxious or restricted. Change your mindset. This is not a punishment. It's a new way to live. It's a better way to live because it is helping you become the best version of yourself. I know it's easier said than done, but I know you can do it.

If your goal is to lose weight, have an attainable goal. If you're goal is to lose 2 dress sizes in 2 weeks, you're going to burn yourself out and if you do reach it, it's a very unhealthy way. The healthier weight loss is 2lbs a week.

2. Commit.
Losing weight really is simple. The less calories you put in your body and the more calories you burn out, you will lose weight. The hardest part of losing weight is committing. Every person is different. The amount of food you will vary depending on your goal, your current weight etc. If you commit to eating healthy and commit to working out, you are already on your way to your goal. Don't be lazy and don't have a cheat day. What is the point of a cheat day? There is no logic to it. You work so hard in a week so you can pig out for one day? You have worked so hard and then you're just going to throw everything away. Instead of this, why not do it in smaller portions. The more you deprive yourself of something, the more you are going to crave for it.

As for working out, they say it's better for have a good 40 minute work out everyday than going to the gym 2 hours twice a week. Don't be lazy at working out too. If you're join got do a 40 minute to 1 hours work out, give it your all. There is no point in you going to the gym for 1 hour everyday if you're only going to try to look pretty. It's going to be hard. It's going to be tough, but once you reach your goal, it's going to be the best feeling in the world.

3. Celebrate.
It is important to pat yourself on the back for all of the achievements in this new lifestyle. EVERYTHING should be celebrated. We're you addicted to soda, but have now found that you can live without them? That's a great reason to celebrate! Found a healthy recipe that you love? That's another reason to celebrate! Now when I say celebrate, I don't mean go out there and drink to your hearts desire. I want you to be excited for this achievement. You deserve it. Celebrate the simple things. It will really help in enhancing your new found lifestyle.

Losing weight and having a lifestyle change is simple, but it's not easy. It takes strong willed, determined people and I'm glad you are taking this path to be the best versions of yourself.
